Healthy Smiles for Back to School!
All around the country, kids have headed off to school with freshly brushed teeth and new school clothes, which means that the time is coming fast for school to start in the Pacific Northwest! Dentist in Newberg Dr. Jennifer McLeod and her team at Newberg Family Dental encourage their young patients to do the following to have healthy smiles for going back to school.
Healthy Smiles = 2×2
The math problem 2×2 might seem like an easy one to solve, but it means something different when it comes to your smile. The first “2” means brushing your teeth 2 times a day. The second “2” means to brush your teeth for two minutes each time you brush. So 2×2 actually equals a healthy smile!
If two minutes seems like a really long time to stand there and brush your teeth, consider playing one of these fun 2×2 videos to help the time go by in a flash. Another good idea is to put on your favorite song and brush your way to a healthy smile!
Healthy Smiles = No Cavities!
Don’t worry, all of that brushing and flossing will pay off once you come in for a teeth cleaning and Dr. McLeod can’t find any cavities. One of the great parts of coming to Newberg Family Dental is the Kids No Cavity Club. Once Dr. McLeod searches your mouth and can’t find any cavities, you’ll be part of this club that rewards each child for the work dedicated to maintaining a healthy smile. Not only is each child’s photo displayed in the office to celebrate, but kids are entered to win fabulous prizes all year long!
Healthy Smiles = Healthy Lunches!
One of the activities that we do multiple times a day effects our teeth more than anything else we do, and that is eating. Keeping a healthy smile requires kids and adults of all ages to skip the candy and soda and instead opt for nutrient-dense snacks. When you pack your lunch for the day, keep in mind that there probably won’t be an opportunity to brush your teeth during the school day. Crunchy fruits and vegetables – like apples, celery and carrots, among others – make for delicious snacks that clean your teeth. Pair them with cheese or peanut butter for a really yummy snack that will help you keep your healthy smile!
Healthy Smiles = Clean Teeth!
Since you’re out of school, this is the perfect time to grab a parent and make an appointment at Newberg Family Dental for a regular checkup, including a teeth cleaning and exam. Dr. McLeod can check for cavities, apply a tooth sealant if needed, and fit kids with mouthguards that protect teeth during sports activities.
