Celebrate Our Local Veterans

Newberg Veterans Day Events

Nov. 10-11 – Flag folding ceremonies will be held at local assisted living facilities both days by Lester C. Rees American Legion Post 57.

Sherwood Veterans Day Events

Nov. 11 – 11 a.m. – Sherwood High School, 16956 SW Meinecke Rd., is hosting a ceremony to honor all veterans. Enjoy patriotic music and hear inspirational speakers including Mayor Bill Middleton.

Tigard Veterans Day Events

Nov. 11 – 12 p.m. – Veterans and guest are invited to enjoy Hobo Stew at American Legion Post 158, 8635 SW Scoffins St. Donations will be accepted.

McMinnville Veterans Day Events

Nov. 9 – 5 to 7 p.m. – American Legion Post 21, hosting a dinner at 126 NE Atlantic St. Cost: Free to veterans; all others, $6.

Nov. 10 – 3 p.m. – Second Winds Community Band, Linfield College’s Band present the annual free Veterans Day Concert at the Community Center, 600 NE Evans St., with Civil War-era music. Guest speaker: Mike Donahue; US Army veteran, former TV reporter. Also, a multi-media photo presentation of Yamhill County veterans, Civil War Reenactors Color Guard, and a Civil War fashion show.

Nov. 12 – 11 a.m. – Veterans Appreciation Day at the Chemeketa Community College campus, Bldg. 1, 288 NE Norton Lane. Guest speaker: Stan de Stwolinski, Korean War veteran. Color Guard: American Legion Post 21.

Wilsonville Veterans Day Events

Nov. 11 – 10:30 a.m. – Salute to the U.S. Flag and America’s veterans during a ceremony at the Oregon Korean War Memorial, 29600 Town Center Park.  Korean Consul General, Young Wan Song will present Ambassador for Peace certificates and medals to previously-approved U.S. Korean War veterans.

Portland, Oregon Veterans Day Events

Nov. 9 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 10 – 12 to 5 p.m. – All veterans, active duty military, retirees and their families will be admitted free to the Oregon History Museum at the Oregon Historical Society, 1200 SW Park Ave.  A valid military ID, a Veterans Identification Card, a Common Access Card (CAC), DD Forms 1173 or 1173-1 are required for admission.

Nov. 9 – 9 to 11 a.m. – City Bible Church, 9200 NE Fremont, will host a free Veterans Day breakfast for all veterans, First Responders, their family and friends, or anyone who wants to attend and honor our heroes.

Nov. 11 – 9:45 a.m. – The 39th Annual Ross Hollywood Chapel Veterans Day Parade runs from NE 40th and Tillamook, ending at NE 48th and Sandy Blvd. with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.  Grand Marshals: USO Northwest Staff.  All proceeds from the 1st annual Hollywood Veterans Mile run will benefit USO Northwest. After the parade the public is invited to a free WWII style USO show at the Hollywood Theater on NE Sandy Blvd.

1 p.m. – University of Portland Reserve Officer Training Corps will host a ceremony at the Praying Hands Memorial on campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. Guest speaker: TBA.
